Bed and Breakfast Accommodation for Sale

New Zealand Bed and Breakfast accommodation is unique, and provides travellers, especially baby boomer travellers, an experience of the New Zealand culture and hospitality that is often remembered long after they have forgotten the sights. Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the U.S.A. and Europe is often simply that, a bed and breakfast. They are often large operations where guests never meet the owners, and sometimes don’t meet other guests. There is rarely any interaction. Absentee owners who simply employ housekeepers to keep their properties clean own many of these businesses.

In New Zealand, the host is usually the owner and bed and breakfast guests are treated like friends of the family, which they soon become. Breakfast is at the hosts table with the other guests and is often a time for interaction and chatter about the days activities.

We frequently stay at the Booklovers in Wellington’s Mt Victoria. Here we meet writers and journalists from all over the world. Breakfast here is often a loud discussion about politics, books, and food. The food is homemade, or a selection of organic and local fresh foods from the market. All only a few minutes from downtown Wellington. We love it and the cost is about the same as staying in the impersonal dormitory style hotels in town.

In Wanaka, bed and breakfast accommodation is about providing owners with additional income and tax benefits. With so many travellers coming to experience the Wanaka lifestyle in winter and in summer, a home with several extra bedrooms becomes a way to afford living in a beautiful home in beautiful surroundings. And friends and relatives have somewhere to stay when they come to visit.

We have a great selection of bed and breakfasts, backpackers and motels for sale. The list is constantly changing as some are sold and more become available, so for the latest listings or more information please contact me. Click on the links for a glimpse of our selection:

Earthquake!

Mum and Dad came to vist last night and I was completely chilled relaxing on the couch, talking to Dad. His leg was shaking, and then he really started to shake. The whole house started to roll, all the lights on the move. We have a yucca in the corner; it looked like we had quite a breeze up in the house.

We jumped up and went over and stood in the doorway.

This earthquake is the strongest and longest I have felt. I have been in a few in the past, but none of this magnitude. It seemed to roll and build, getting stronger. At one point it did feel as though it would get really scary and then it began to die away.

All over! No power outages, no damage, lucky. At about 2.000am I felt a big aftershock, shorter and more jolting.

Woke up this morning to find it was big, almost 8.0 on the Richter scale, the same size as the one that smashed Napier in 1931. Find out more here.

Green House Gas Emissions

On Friday we cut across to Queenstown with Sustainable Wanaka to hear Climate Change Minister Nick Smith’s roadshow on what New Zealand’s target for Greenhouse Gas Emission reduction should be. Later in the year New Zealand must make a commitment at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December. The problem is real and close to home. Our friends and neighbours in the Pacific face losing their islands beneath the waves and Australia looks increasingly uninhabitable. Just imagine if we become host to thousands of Aussie climate change refugees! Our standard of living will be affected, economically and environmentally.

New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum

My son, Reuben, and I visited the Fighter Pilots Museum at Wanaka last week. The museum is a fitting memorial to the New Zealand fighter pilots, especially those of WW2. There are fighter planes on display and quite a few operational planes still flying. Next year, Warbirds over Wanaka will celebrate these machines and the men who flew them. Make sure you are there by booking early; accommodation will be hard to get as demand is high, and it only comes once every two years. Continue reading New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum

Marketing Your Property

When you call a real estate salesperson to market and sell your property you will want to know what they are going to do to sell it.

And that is fair enough.

This is my minimum. Continue reading Marketing Your Property

Market Yourself Successfully with Social Media

Most Real Estate salespeople have figured out that they need to have an email marketing programme to their database. Many are using Facebook and Twitter. But your clients want more from you than just what houses you’ve got for sale, and when your open homes are. They can get that stuff from anywhere. They want to hear from you. That’s right you as a person, who you are, and what you stand for. Continue reading Market Yourself Successfully with Social Media

Early Morning Stroll

Just a short walk this morning, to stretch our legs after skiing all yesterday, along the shores of Lake Wanaka. Early morning, but no fog and the cold temperatures we have had seem to have eased. The mountains all around are shrouded with snow.

Paradise Ducks

A pair of Paradise Ducks in Lake Wanaka

Paradise Ducks warn each other of our approach as we walk briskly past the old Wanaka Homestead, with it’s sequoias and roses, Edgewater Resort and Rippon Vineyard, to the Blennerhassett Reserve. There’s also a shag colony, but the shags have gone fishing someplace else. Continue reading Early Morning Stroll
